Derby County are nearing a deal for Djurgarden’s goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom as they turn to Europe to strengthen their squad. The Rams have reportedly agreed on a fee with the Swedish club for the 6ft 6ins stopper, who has had an impressive season.
According to Scandinavian reports, Zetterstrom will need to undergo a medical and might play in Djurgarden’s Europa Conference League match against Progres on Thursday. The deal is said to be worth 20 million SEK (£1.4 million), and once finalized, it will conclude Derby’s search for a goalkeeper. The club had previously considered Daniel Iversen from Leicester City and had been linked with free agent Marek Rodak, formerly of Fulham.
Fans on DerbyshireLive have been discussing the potential signing, with one fan, Ballspinner, expressing optimism: “This goalkeeper sounds very promising – let’s hope it goes through now and let’s get him settled into his new team. Get in Paul Warne and all of his staff… onward and upwards.”
CliveS: “Glad to see we are looking in Europe. Kenzo seems to have huge potential, and patience seems to be the watchword, but getting the deal done in the end, which seems to be the case with all the current signings. Hopefully, this goalie will bring us the security needed with two fine goalies. Was also impressed by Ben Osborn, a terrific pass for Dejaune Brown against Stockport, for example.”
Majako10: “It will show great ambition at the club if we land him.”
MatlockRams: “Don’t know much about this guy, but if he is good enough for PW, he is good enough for me. The squad now is looking good. In Warne we trust. COYR.”
