The Vancouver Canucks have secured forward Daniel Sprong on a one-year contract, as confirmed by the team on Saturday. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Last season, Sprong demonstrated his scoring prowess with 18 goals and 25 assists across 76 games for the Detroit Red Wings. Originally from the Netherlands, the 27-year-old has accumulated a total of 159 points (85 goals, 74 assists) throughout his NHL career spanning 344 games. His tenure has included stints with Detroit, Seattle, Washington, Anaheim, and Pittsburgh, who drafted him in the second round, 46th overall, in the 2015 NHL draft.
Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin emphasized Sprong’s physical presence and scoring ability, noting that the six-foot, 195-pound winger will bolster Vancouver’s forward depth. Allvin expressed confidence that Sprong’s maturity and offensive capabilities will contribute to a more balanced scoring approach for the team in the upcoming season.
“We’re excited to add another skilled winger to our lineup,” Allvin remarked in a team statement. “Daniel has evolved as a player and has proven he can make significant offensive contributions. His addition will enhance our depth and provide a valuable boost to our forward group.”
