St Johnstone’s Boost with Uche Ikpeazu’s Early Return
St Johnstone are poised for a significant boost ahead of the new Premiership season as summer signing Uche Ikpeazu is progressing ahead of schedule in his injury recovery. Craig Levein revealed that the former Hearts and Middlesbrough forward, who joined the Saints this month from an English League Two club, might return sooner than expected after injuring his knee cartilage at home.
Initially, it was anticipated that Ikpeazu would be sidelined until October. However, Levein provided a hopeful update, suggesting that Ikpeazu could be ready by the end of August. “Uche will be nearer the end of August,” Levein told The Courier. “He’s positive about it and will undergo rehab at St George’s Park. He might miss some of the league, but we’ll see how he progresses.”
If Ikpeazu’s recovery goes as planned, he could debut against Motherwell at the end of August or after the international break against Hibernian.
Aberdeen Goalkeeper’s Stunning Loan Start
Aberdeen goalkeeper Tom Ritchie has made an impressive start to his latest loan spell at League Two club Bonnyrigg Rose. The 21-year-old, who has yet to make a senior start for Aberdeen, joined Bonnyrigg Rose on a season-long loan and was immediately thrust into action for their Premier Sports Cup tie against Annan Athletic.
Ritchie helped his new team to a 2-2 draw and then saved three penalties in the shootout, earning praise from Bonnyrigg Rose manager Calum Elliot. “He’s there to keep the ball out of the net,” Elliot told Rose TV. “He fit in well with the group and made an immediate impact.”
Ritchie aims to continue his strong performances when Bonnyrigg Rose faces Inverness Caledonian Thistle in their next Premier Sports Cup match on Saturday.
