Hibernian have reportedly reached an agreement to sign former Barnsley and Huddersfield Town loanee Jordan Smith following his release from Stockport County.
At 29 years old, Smith has yet to establish himself as a long-term first-choice goalkeeper in his career. He spent a decade with Nottingham Forest but was primarily used as a backup and loaned out to five different clubs.
Among the clubs that took Smith on loan were Barnsley and Huddersfield, where he made only one appearance for Barnsley and did not play for Huddersfield.
He also had stints in non-league football with Ilkeston and Nuneaton Town and saw action in League Two with Mansfield Town.
After permanently departing from Forest, he joined Stockport County but primarily served as a backup goalkeeper, remaining an unused substitute in all 46 of the club’s League Two matches last season.
According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, he is now set to start anew in Scotland. Hibs have reportedly agreed to sign Smith as a free agent.
This move will provide Smith with another chance to compete for playing time, though he will face stiff competition. Hibs have recently signed former England youth international and ex-Doncaster Rovers loanee, Joe Bursik. The club also has Ghana international Jojo Wollacott and the promising Max Boruc in their squad.
