DEVASTATING REPORT: New Sheffield Wednesday Star Faces Injury Drama Just Before Crucial Friendlies.

New Sheffield Wednesday signing, Ben Hamer, has suffered an injury setback ahead of the club’s trip to Germany and Austria. Hamer was the first summer signing at Hillsborough, marking the beginning of a busy few weeks for Danny Röhl as he assembles a squad for the 2024/25 Championship season.

Initially, Hamer joined when Pierce Charles was the only contracted goalkeeper. The club hoped to re-sign James Beadle after his successful loan, which they did earlier this month, and Jack Hall also renewed his contract.

Hamer played 45 minutes in the 2-0 win over Alfreton Town in their first preseason friendly, sharing time with Charles. He aimed to feature in upcoming fixtures against RB Salzburg, Werder Bremen, and Leganes before the opening game against Plymouth Argyle.

However, Hamer’s participation is uncertain after picking up an injury during preseason preparations. It’s unknown if he will travel for the second preseason camp this weekend. In his absence, Röhl has Beadle and Hall to work with, as Charles is away with Northern Ireland’s U19s at the European Championship. Additionally, teenager Jack Phillips recently signed his first professional contract with the club.
