Nottingham Forest may need to increase their offer for Fiorentina center-back Nikola Milenkovic to secure his signature.

Over the weekend, it was reported that the Reds made a £13 million bid for the Serbian international and were confident of finalizing the deal to bolster head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s defensive options.

However, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Fiorentina are holding out for at least 20 million euros (£16.8 million) for the 26-year-old. Forest’s initial offer has initiated negotiations, but talks are still in the early stages.

The need for defensive reinforcements is pressing for Forest, as Joe Worrall and Jonathan Panzo are expected to leave this summer, and there is ongoing speculation about Murillo’s future. Although Forest did not need to sell Murillo at a cut-price fee to meet last month’s accounting deadline, the Brazilian remains a target for several clubs. Even if he stays, the Reds still require at least one more center-back, with Willy Boly and Andrew Omobamidele currently being the only other senior options.
