“I’m not speaking specifically about Connor and Tav now, but in general, it doesn’t work that way anywhere in the world. You always need two parties to agree. Every player falls into that category, except Jack.
“If someone offers £30 million or £40 million, you can replace him with that money. We need funds to replace him. If it’s a good amount, you can replace him and address other needs. We will see.”
Clement is clear that both Tavernier and Goldson remain integral to his plans. Tavernier played all but one of the club’s 59 games last season, while Goldson was a consistent presence until he lost his place to Leon Balogun due to a knee injury in the final month of the season.
Goldson is now fit and started both of Rangers’ pre-season matches in the Netherlands against Standard Liege and Ajax. However, Clement has informed both players that they may spend more time on the bench this coming season.
He said: “They have contributed a lot to the club over the last few years and have had some excellent games under me.
“They also had games where their performance was less impressive, like the rest of the team. Perhaps they played too much last season or in recent years because playing 60 games means no one can be at their peak all the time.
“They have done all of this for the club and worked really hard. They are not going to play 60 games this coming season.”
