Tottenham and Everton have reportedly reached an agreement concerning a potential new contract for Dele Alli at Everton, which would involve deferred payments to the north London club, according to information from football.london.
Earlier reports indicated that Everton had struck a deal with Spurs where they would not owe an upfront fee to Tottenham if Alli were to sign a contract with the Merseyside club. Alli, 28, joined Everton in January 2022 under a deal structured with payments deferred based on appearances, rather than paid upfront.
Under the original agreement, Tottenham would have been entitled to a fee if Alli were to agree to a new contract with Everton. Currently out of contract, Alli has resumed light training with Everton, who are expected to give him an opportunity to impress during pre-season with a view to potentially securing a new deal.
Alli featured prominently for Spurs, making 269 appearances and contributing 67 goals along with 58 assists. However, he only made 13 appearances for Everton before being loaned to Besiktas. His competitive play was interrupted since February 2023 due to a hip injury followed by a groin issue. Last summer, after speaking about mental health challenges, he aimed to return to action but faced setbacks due to injury.
Alli is now nearing a return and has been undergoing treatment at Everton despite his contract expiring last month, participating in light training sessions.
According to football.london’s understanding, Everton and Spurs have agreed that there would not be an immediate payment if Everton were to finalize a new deal with Alli. However, Tottenham would be eligible for additional payments based on specific performance objectives and would retain a sell-on clause if Alli were to later depart Everton.
