Derby County to Pursue Another Signing Following Likely Arrival of Ebou Adams from Cardiff City

Derby County are targeting another signing following the anticipated arrival of Ebou Adams from Cardiff City. The club has been very active in the summer transfer window over the past few weeks.

Recent arrivals include Ben Osborn, who has gained attention with his experience of three promotions and two Premier League seasons. The addition of Dutch midfielder Kenzo Goudmijn will provide more depth in the center of the park, especially after the release of Conor Hourihane and Korey Smith following the 2023/24 League One season.

Ebou Adams, a Cardiff City and Gambian international, is set to return to Pride Park in a £900,000 deal to reinforce the midfield. Despite these acquisitions, Derby County’s work is not done, as they aim to secure another target in a position prioritized by manager Paul Warne.

Derby County Set Their Sights on Another Midfielder This Summer

Paul Warne is reportedly looking to bring in another midfielder to Derby County this summer, according to Darren Witcoop on X. Despite already signing midfield reinforcements Kenzo Goudmijn, Ben Osborn, and the imminent arrival of Ebou Adams, Warne feels the squad still lacks depth in that position.

Witcoop also mentioned that “a few offers” have been made for a player in that position, including a potential loan deal.

Derby County will need reinforcements to replace Louie Sibley, who has signed for Championship rivals Oxford United after playing a significant role in the Rams’ automatic promotion from League One.

Should Paul Warne Still Prioritize Midfield Signings?

Before the transfer window opened, it was clear that Derby County needed to strengthen both their midfield and attacking options. Warne has brought in two midfielders and is expected to add two more if Adams and the mystery player sign with Pride Park.

However, the attacking options remain limited, despite the loan arrival of Jerry Yates from Swansea City and Kayden Jackson from Ipswich Town. Warne also has Conor Washington and James Collins available, but neither is a guaranteed goal-scorer at this level and are more suited to lower tiers, particularly at their respective ages of 32 and 33.

While Derby County doesn’t need to spend excessively, prioritizing at least one more striker before the 2024/25 Championship campaign is crucial to make a significant impact in terms of goals.
