Greg Docherty, formerly of Hibs, Rangers, and Hamilton, is set for a new chapter after being convinced to join Charlton by manager Nathan Jones. The midfielder, who became a free agent after departing Hull City, has opted for League One’s Addicks. Despite overseas interest, Docherty, who began his career at Hamilton and has also played for Rangers, Shrewsbury Town, and Hibs, has chosen to continue his career in England.

Docherty’s association with Hibs during a loan spell from Rangers before the Covid-19 pandemic saw him quickly become a fan favorite, contributing three goals and five assists in just eight appearances at Easter Road. Since then, he has not been involved in Scottish football.

Looking ahead to his time at Charlton, the 27-year-old expressed enthusiasm for Jones’ vision, stating, “I am really pleased. To wear this shirt and represent such a historic football club is a privilege. I am eager to get started.” Docherty acknowledged early interest from Charlton during the transfer window but took time over the summer to assess his options, considering his first experience as a free agent after four years at Hull.

“My first conversation with the manager convinced me,” Docherty added. “I am excited to contribute everything I have for the fans and be part of this project.”
