Collingwood might see the return of forward Jamie Elliott for Friday’s game against Geelong, while two defenders need to prove their fitness ahead of the crucial match.
Elliott has been sidelined since Round 8 due to a back injury and vascular issues, initially raising concerns that the premiership Magpie might miss the rest of the season. After an extensive training period, Elliott hopes to prove his fitness in Wednesday’s main session to be considered for selection this week.
Ruckman Darcy Cameron (ribs) and wingman Jeremy Howe (hamstring) are expected to be available for the game despite recent injuries, and flanker John Noble is likely to clear concussion protocols in time for the match.
Defensive players Isaac Quaynor (toe) and Oleg Markov (adductor) will be evaluated for injuries sustained in last week’s loss to Essendon, with Quaynor unable to train on Monday due to another issue.
Other senior Magpies, Mason Cox (knee, 1-2 weeks), Beau McCreery (calf, 3-5 weeks), Tom Mitchell (foot, 2-4 weeks), and Brody Mihocek (pectoral, 10-12 weeks) remain out.
Forward Dan McStay is gradually nearing a return from an ACL injury suffered in December, with the club continuing to monitor his progress.
