The Melbourne Storm are set to welcome back star five-eighth Cameron Munster in the coming weeks, just in time for the NRL finals. Head coach Craig Bellamy’s team has recently been plagued by injuries, with key players like Nick Meaney, Harry Grant, Xavier Coates, and Ryan Papenhuyzen joining Munster on the sidelines.
Despite the injury setbacks, the Storm have managed to climb to the top of the ladder, thanks in part to the impressive performance of Jarome Hughes, who has excelled as the halfback in Munster’s absence.
Storm fans have reason to be optimistic, as Munster is targeting a return in round 22 against the Dragons. The Maroons and Kangaroos star’s season has been disrupted by a groin injury, but his return would provide a significant boost for the team. Munster has played seven games this year, helping the Storm to six victories, with eight try assists and six line breaks.
Unfortunately for the Maroons, Munster will miss the State of Origin series, including the crucial decider at home against the Blues, following their 38-18 defeat in Game 2.
Adding to the positive news, Papenhuyzen is also set to return this week. He made his comeback in round 16 after recovering from a right leg injury, scoring a try, but missed round 17 due to a heel injury. His latest injury appears to be minor, and he is expected to play against the Tigers on Saturday. The Storm will benefit from the bye in round 19, which will allow Meaney to return after the break.
Updates on Storm Player Injuries:
– Cameron Munster: Progressing with adductor rehab and aiming to join team training after the bye, with a return expected in round 21-22.
– Nick Meaney: Sidelined with a minor calf strain, expected to be back after the round 19 bye.
– Harry Grant: Taking an extended rest after a head knock in Origin 2 and additional bruises. He will miss the game against the Tigers but is expected to return for the round 20 showdown with the Roosters.
Xavier Coates Injury Update:
Coates, one of the few Origin players to back up last weekend, suffered a hamstring injury and is expected to be out for six to eight weeks, ruling him out of Origin Game 3. Kane Bradley is set to replace him on the wing.
The return of key players like Munster and Papenhuyzen, along with careful management of injuries, will be crucial for the Storm as they aim to maintain their top position and make a strong push in the finals.
