Nick Montgomery has vowed to stay true to his principles after being offered a route back into football by Tottenham Hotspur. The former Hibs boss has joined Ange Postecoglou’s new-look backroom staff in North London, marking his first role since being sacked from Easter Road, where he lasted just eight months and failed to secure a top-six finish.

Montgomery, who led Central Coast Mariners to the A-League championship in 2023, has been appointed as one of Postecoglou’s new assistant managers alongside Sergio Raimundo. Matt Wells has been appointed senior No. 2, replacing newly-appointed Birmingham City boss Chris Davies.

In his new role at Spurs, Montgomery has pledged to maintain his philosophy. He posted on LinkedIn, “Always stick to what you believe in, but most importantly believe in yourself and never change who you are. Time for a new challenge and one I cannot wait to start. Roll on season 2024/25…”

Speaking on the appointments of Montgomery and Raimundo, Postecoglou said, “Both Nick and Sergio have a wealth of coaching experience over a number of years. They have already demonstrated a strong desire to both develop young talent and implement a football style that I believe will further strengthen the environment we have established. I’m looking forward to working with them.”
