Has anyone secured their berth for the All-Star Game yet?
Indeed. As the top vote-getters in the AL and NL, respectively, during Phase 1, Aaron Judge of the Yankees and Bryce Harper of the Phillies both secured automatic starting spots.
How many players made it to the second phase?
The top six AL outfielders and the top two finishers at each position advanced to the second round of voting. After Judge secured his position as the AL’s top vote-getter, just four outfielders from the AL continued on to Phase 2.
When did the second phase start?
The second wave of voting took place on Sunday at noon ET and ended earlier today at noon ET. After Phase 1, the vote totals are reset.
Which races should I watch?
During the first two days of Phase 2 voting, certain participants distinguished themselves from others, but other positions were close to being decided.
As of Tuesday’s most recent Phase 2 report, Trea Turner and Mookie Betts were tied statistically at shortstop in the National League, making it the closest matchup in either league. Betts gathered support even though he was on the injured list due to a fractured left hand.
Both outfields were involved in the next closest races. Christian Yelich, Jurickson Profar, and Fernando Tatis Jr. were leading the NL, but Teoscar Hernández, Brandon Marsh, and Nick Castellanos were all closing in; third place and sixth place were separated by just three percentage points. In the AL, Anthony Santander was only 3% behind Steven Kwan, who was leading Juan Soto and Steven Kwan to join Judge in the outfield. With a more difficult route, Kyle Tucker came in fourth.
When will the reserves and pitchers for the All-Star team be revealed?
The All-Star Selection Show on ESPN on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. ET will reveal the entire All-Star lineups, including pitchers and reserve position players for both teams. Pitchers and reserves, or a total of 23 players per team, will be chosen by the Commissioner’s Office based on “Player Ballot” selections.
