Reports indicate that Khabib Nurmagomedov’s bank accounts have been seized due to a $3 million tax debt. Nurmagomedov, the former UFC lightweight champion, retired undefeated in 2022 with a flawless professional MMA record of 29-0, including 8 wins by knockout and 11 by submission. Throughout his career, he faced formidable opponents such as Rafael dos Anjos, Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje.

Despite efforts by UFC president Dana White to entice Nurmagomedov back into the Octagon for a historic 30th fight, the Dagestani fighter remained steadfast in honoring a promise to his mother to retire following the passing of his father and coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

Here are ways Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov could revive their intense rivalry.

The former fighter reportedly owes $3 million in taxes.

According to reports from Russian sources Mash and REN TV, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s personal accounts in Russia have been frozen. The Russian Federal Tax Service (FTS) appears to have confirmed this on its website, stating that there are legal decisions to suspend activities related to Nurmagomedov as a taxpayer.

MSN, citing the Russian news agency Tass, reported that representatives of Nurmagomedov have denied initial allegations of tax evasion, labeling the information about tax debt as inaccurate. They emphasized that Nurmagomedov remains actively involved in business projects and continues to develop them.

The fighter has had a challenging week.

It’s been a challenging week for Khabib Nurmagomedov, as reported by Sports Illustrated on June 28th, with police raiding his gym as part of investigations related to terror attacks in Dagestan. The raid, described by SI as involving numerous authorities, occurred following an attack on June 23rd that tragically resulted in 21 deaths, including MMA fighter Gadzhimurad Kagirov, whom Sports Illustrated labeled as a suspected terrorist. The incident also involved significant damage to a synagogue in Makhachkala, which was ablaze during the attack, and a separate assault on another synagogue in Derbent, located 80 miles south of Makhachkala.

In response to these events, Nurmagomedov categorically denied any connection between the suspected terrorist and his gym, Red Corner MMA, stating, “[The terrorist] is not our student, that is absolute nonsense, it’s not true. Yes, he had a camp at the gym at some point, maybe for a couple of months. But he was never part of the team.”

In a notable reaction, Conor McGregor, Nurmagomedov’s longtime UFC rival, posted a series of comments on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), which have since been removed. McGregor’s remarks included a statement affirming his previous warnings and also targeted Nurmagomedov’s MMA manager, Ali Abdelaziz.
